This live recording from Celtic Connections captures a special moment in the story of Ceòlas Uibhist. It marks thirty years since this small Gaelic arts organisation, rooted in the community of South Uist, first came together in the summer of 1996 for five days of celebrating Gaelic singing, piping, fiddling and dancing.
From Hamish Moore’s original vision, Ceòlas has grown into one of Scotland’s leading organisations dedicated to Gaelic culture, heritage and the arts. Throughout that journey, the connection with the Cape Breton diaspora has remained at its heart, celebrating and strengthening the shared traditions that continue to unite communities on both sides of the Atlantic.
Most of the musicians featured on this recording have all played a part in the Ceòlas story over the years. We were honoured to be invited by Celtic Connections to mark this important milestone, bringing the spirit of Ceòlas to one of the world’s most renowned winter music festivals and sharing a taste of South Uist’s rich Gaelic heritage with audiences from across the globe.
